If Wheeler is approved by the Senate, he would guide the FCC in dealing with crucial issues likely to face the agency in the near-term, including media consolidations, wireless spectrum reform and a possible reconsideration of net neutrality rules.
Wheeler's critics say he is too much of an industry advocate, especially given the 12 years he spent heading up the CTIA, a telecommunications trade group whose membership includes nearly every major industry player.
