Tiny church finds original King James Bible

http://mormonmatters.org/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/kjv16111.jpg

A little English village church has just made a remarkable discovery.

The ornate old Bible that had been sitting in plain view on a table near the last row of pews for longer than anyone could remember is an original King James Bible - one of perhaps 200 surviving 400-year-old original editions of arguably the most important book ever printed in English.  CNN Belief

How to Plant and Grow Navy Beans

Navy beans are small white beans that are harvested after they have dried on the plant. Useful for soups, stews and chilis, they are easy to store and a good source of protein. Navy bean plants grow as a bush up to 2-feet tall. From planting to harvest, the total growing time is usually from 85 to 100 days. Navy beans can be grown in most parts of the United States, but extreme northern climates may have too short a growing season for successful harvest. Read more:

Detroit mom released from jail in standoff over daughter's meds

A woman charged with using a gun to hold off police when Wayne County Child Protective Services workers came to take her daughter in a dispute over the 13-year-old's medication was released today from jail.

"I feel wonderful and I'm very excited to see my daughter," Maryanne Godboldo, 56, said after leaving this afternoon from the Wayne County Jail. "The support of the community has been unbelievable."
Earlier today, 36th District Judge Paula Humphries reduced Godboldo's $500,000 cash surety bond to a $200,000 personal recognizance bond. The reduction meant Godboldo, jailed since Friday morning when she surrendered to police after a 10-hour standoff in which she is alleged to have fired a shot, was released without posting any money.

Pole Dancing for Jesus: Has It Gone Too Far?

“Praise God, bring your sexy and make it rain for Jesus.” When I recently read a Huffington Post article about the developing trend of pole dancing within the Christian community, I initially laughed because I thought that there was no way that this story could be true. Sadly enough, the respective essay went on to objectively describe a new workout class in Houston, Texas that occurs once a month and requires a church program for entrance. Once in the class, women are reportedly taught to “celebrate their body which God has given them.”  | The Atlanta Post

Ghana: Govt Under Pressure to Adopt Genetically Modified Crops

http://rowlands.maars.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/green.jpgPressure is mounting on Ghana to introduce Biotech/GM [Genetically Modified] Crops into its agricultural framework and allow for the production of biotech foods on commercial scale.

If Ghana accepts, then she will no longer grow crops like cotton, maize and cowpea or even banana using the traditional farming methods and waiting for the plant to mature through a natural cycle. Rather, through laboratory manipulations "improved varieties" of crops could be developed by shortening the maturity cycle of the plant, as well as, introduced certain "desired traits" such as drought and pest resistance into the plant.  allAfrica.com

Libya: African Union Snubs Talks in London

Mr Jean Ping, the AU chairman, was scheduled to lead the six-member high-level Ad hoc delegation, comprising five foreign ministers, but they made no show in the British capital where some speakers stressed regime change in Tripoli.  allAfrica.com

Organized Religion and How It Is Depleting Logic

Ordinary run of the mill churchgoers are the epitome of singular thinkers. Other than their strict adherence to the outlandish myths of the Bible, a grown man in the belly of a whale and all that, they behave as, well, simpletons. They are obedient servants, not fully developed and autonomous beings. Sin leads to hell. Obedience leads to heaven. It doesn’t get any simpler than that.  | The Atlanta Post

Dr. Boyce: 27% Of Blacks Lose Faith In Obama After Libya Attack

According to a recent survey conducted by YourBlackWorld.com, 27.3% of African American respondents claim that President Obama’s most recent actions in Libya have reduced their faith in his leadership ability. Roughly 20.8% of respondents claim that the Libyan intervention has increased their faith in Obama’s leadership. Equally interesting is that over half (51.8%) of all black respondents to the survey said that the Libyan intervention has no impact at all on their perception of President Obama’s ability to lead.   | News One

Obama’s North African War Face

Whatever happens to Moammar Gaddafi, an independent Libya is not on the U.S. agenda. “Obama hopes to ‘stabilize’ Libya under indirect U.S. dominion through a kind of protectorate involving various ‘international’ entities, on the Haitian model.” The president’s doctrine of “humanitarian” warfare – like his rhetoric – is merely a sweetened derivative of George Bush’s more crudely presented policies. “In the final analysis, Euro-American hegemony means crushing the aspirations of all Arabs in the sand.”  Read more...

Garden Composter - How Long to Make Compost?

So you're a garden composter. You've learnt how to make compost. You've made, bought, borrowed or stolen a compost bin. You're adding garden waste and recycling kitchen scraps. Now the awkward bit - the wait... How long will it take to make the compost?

If you have a reasonably large compost bin (say 1 metre cubed), the chances are you could go on filling it indefinitely. As you add to the top, the garden and kitchen waste underneath will slowly be decomposing, composting and creating humus. As it does this the organic matter shrinks. That leaves you more room on the top, to add more garden and kitchen waste.

Global powers must offer Gaddafi exit route: analysts

Humanitarian aid for Libyans and plans to move to a post-Gaddafi future will be discussed when Britain hosts the conference to be attended by 35 nations.

Britain, which has taken a lead role in military operations against Gaddafi's forces, said the meeting would reinforce the commitment to implement the U.N. Security Council resolution to protect civilians.

However, with NATO taking command of military operations and rebels on the advance, some commentators said Gaddafi should be given a last chance to end his four-decade rule.

Man freed after 27 years in prison for crimes he didn’t commit

After spending 27 years in prison for rapes and attacks prosecutors now say he did not commit, Thomas Haynesworth started a new life as a free man Monday.

At his mother’s cozy bungalow, where a spare bedroom has always waited for him, Haynesworth ate the Chinese takeout he had been craving — chicken fried rice for lunch. For the first time in his life, he placed a call on a cellphone. Two nieces he had just met crawled into his lap as he relaxed on a recliner in the living room.

It was his 46th birthday, and he was finally home.  - The Washington Post

Americans rise up against Wall Street (Which side is the MainstreamMedia on?)

Protests rage on across America in opposition to government cuts to worker's rights. Nomi Prins, the author of "It Takes a Pillage" and a senior fellow at Demos explained the protests highlight an awakening and increase in collective action targeting Wall Street and the government who keeps bailing out big business. While people are being told by the media and US government that America is recovering from the economic crisis Americans continue to suffer from rising unemployment, foreclosures and debt. As more people feel the crunch, more will rise up and America will see greater collective protests, she argued

Urban Warfare in America: Plans to train, put U.S. troops on the streets worry rights advocates

By Ashahed M. Muhammad
Plans announced by the U.S. Department of Defense to have 20,000 additional uniformed troops dispatched in America by 2011 have been met with criticism from former veterans, law enforcement officials and rights activists concerned that it represents the latest development in a continued blurring of the lines between law enforcement and military operations.

“We are very concerned about the possible constitutional violation of posting active duty soldiers in the United States in a police function,” said Paul Sullivan, executive director of Veterans for Common Sense. “We should be very concerned that President George W. Bush is trying to violate the spirit of our Declaration of Independence and our Constitution by permanently basing active duty troops in the United States with the mission of performing police roles.” Final Call

What is the government going to do about it? That's unknown says Hemminger, but it looks like they are preparing for martial law.

"Shocked and Appalled": Sister of Death Row Prisoner Troy Davis Responds to Supreme Court Ruling

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday refused to hear the appeal of well-known Georgia death row prisoner Troy Anthony Davis, likely setting the stage for Georgia to schedule his execution. Davis was convicted in 1989 of killing an off-duty white police officer, Mark MacPhail. Since then, seven of the nine non-police witnesses who fingered Davis have recanted their testimony. No physical evidence ties Davis to the crime scene. With his legal appeals exhausted, Davis' fate rests largely in the hands of Georgia's Board of Pardons and Parole, which could commute his death sentence and spare his life. Democracy Now! interviews Troy Davis' sister, Martina Correia. "No one wants to look at the actual innocence, and no one wants to look at the witness recantation as a real strong and viable part of this case," Correia says. "I think there needs to be a global mobilization about Troy's case."  "Shocked and Appalled"

Hate Groups and the “Other Wars”

For five hundred years, Europeans made war on virtually all the other people of the planet, erasing whole societies and nations in a crime wave that has not yet ended. These ongoing depredations against people of color, worldwide, are the focus of a Black Is Back Coalition “Conference on the Other Wars,” Saturday, March 26, in Washington, DC. “Among those ‘other wars’ are the continuing settler colonial domination of Indigenous nations, abuse suffered at the hands of the police and broader system of mass incarceration and one we might need to add; the growing hate group phenomenon occurring across this country.”  | Black Agenda Report

What Do We Do About the Unrelenting Jewish Hate?

Tchain-star300x225.jpghe prison of “anti-Semitism,” as The Minister has described it, has been built around the Nation of Islam by Jews who wield this ugly term like the whip of the overseer at one of the many, many sugar and cotton plantations they owned, financed, and/or supplied. They have even successfully recruited sycophantic White gentiles and self-destructive, puppy-like Negros to be wardens of their devious cause. The result has meant doom for our people who continue to suffer in ignorance of the Teachings of The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad and it has deprived them of the leadership, wisdom of The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan.  Part 2

Seriously, What Is the Deal with These Idiots Who Hate Muslims?

What the hell is with this intolerance toward Islam? Honestly, I don't get it. I was watching a preview for the upcoming CNN program Unwelcome: The Muslims Next Door, a documentary about the fight in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, to build a mosque, and I found myself dumbfounded. I’m a child of the internet, so few things shock me anymore. But people outright burning mosque construction sites really throws me for a loop.
