The Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF) has announced the launch of a national effort designed to mobilize African Americans and promote calls to action to prevent and reduce the further spread of HIV/AIDS.
Organized by the Black AIDS Media Partnership, a coalition of leading media companies, in collaboration with the CDC's Act Against AIDS campaign, the Greater Than AIDS initiative will broadcast public service ads to help strengthen a sense of community response by African Americans to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Launched to coincide with National HIV Testing Day on June 27, the initiative focuses on six actions: being informed, using condoms, speaking openly, acting with respect, getting involved, and seeking testing and treatment. ADL Michael Jackson Has "An Anti-Semitic Streak" -- Tape Shows He Hasn't Learned From Past Mistakes
New York, NY, November 23, 2005 … Reacting to revelations that Michael Jackson referred to Jews as "leeches" in a voicemail to a former business manager, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today said the pop music icon "has an anti-Semitic streak" and hasn't learned from his past mistakes, including the use of anti-Semitic epithets in a 1995 song he wrote.
In tapes aired yesterday on ABC's "Good Morning America," Mr. Jackson was heard saying of Jews, "They suck … They're like leeches. … I'm so tired of it … It is a conspiracy. The Jews do it on purpose."
Abraham H. Foxman, ADL National Director, issued the following statement:

The Senate unanimously passed a resolution yesterday apologizing for slavery, making way for a joint congressional resolution and the latest attempt by the federal government to take responsibility for 2 1/2 centuries of slavery.
"You wonder why we didn't do it 100 years ago," Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa), lead sponsor of the resolution, said after the unanimous-consent vote. "It is important to have a collective response to a collective injustice."
The Senate's apology follows a similar apology passed last year by the House. One key difference is that the Senate version explicitly deals with the long-simmering issue of whether slavery descendants are entitled to reparations, saying that the resolution cannot be used in support of claims for restitution. The House is expected to revisit the issue next week to conform its resolution to the Senate version.
While President Obama lobbies for support for health care reform, debate leaders and advocates representing African-Americans and other people of color argue that coverage and cost-cutting alone isn't enough.
Reform must also address the racial and ethnic disparities that exist in the current health system, they argue.
President Obama's Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius released a report last week that revealed just how deep the health care disparities are for racial minorities and low-income Americans.
“Minorities and low income Americans are more likely to be sick and less likely to get the care they need,” said Sebelius in a release. “These disparities have plagued our health system and our country for too long.
